Early Lessons in Safeguarding Indonesia's Cybersecurity

The rapid development of the digital world has gone hand-in-hand with the rise of cybercrime. Unfortunately, internet users are not yet fully aware of these threats. Kaspersky revealed that in 2023, there were 193 million ransomware attacks on computer devices worldwide, with 29 million attacks successfully blocked.

To address this issue, Telkom, in collaboration with the Telkom Education Foundation as a facilitator, partnered with SMK Telkom Malang to organize a "Cyber Security Awareness" training program at the SMK Telkom Malang campus. The training aimed to help students better understand and recognize the dangers of cybercrime, especially as cybercriminals have started targeting students as potential victims. During the training, students learned about protecting their personal data on digital platforms.

One of the participants, Agnes Shifa Ramadani, shared her experience, stating that her knowledge of cybersecurity had significantly increased after attending the training.
“In this training, I learned two key things: tips and tricks to keep our personal data from being hacked and how to create secure account passwords. I also became familiar with many new terms in the cybersecurity field. The materials were easy to understand and very insightful,” said Agnes.

Another participant, Panji Putra Ardian, a student from RPL 1 class at SMK Telkom Malang, echoed the sentiment, saying that he gained a lot of knowledge and benefits from the training.
“After the training, I learned several things about cybersecurity. First, the importance of protecting personal data by being vigilant and regularly updating passwords. Second, always using multi-factor authentication to enhance data security. I also learned how hackers obtain personal data through methods such as malware, phishing, and social engineering,” Panji explained.

The Head of SMK Telkom Malang, Rahmat Dwi Djatmiko, highlighted the positive impact of the training on students, particularly in increasing their understanding of cybersecurity.
“The students participated enthusiastically, and the materials provided were very beneficial. Hopefully, as a state-owned enterprise offering digital services, Telkom can also educate the public about personal data usage, data security, and the associated risks,” he concluded.

He emphasized that such training programs can bring great benefits to society, especially to the youth and students living in today’s digital era.
